MTP breakout cable is used to streamline network cabling in high-density data centers, typically designed for blade server, MTP cassettes, patch panels and switch connections to facilitate moves, adds, and changes, ideal for environments where performance, flexibility, and scalability are critical.

How to realize the conversion from 40g to 10g?


1. QSFP + to SFP + cabling scheme

At present, there are several connection schemes to realize QSFP + to SFP +:

QSFP + to 4 * SFP + DAC / AOC direct cable connection scheme

Whether you choose QSFP + to 4 * SFP + DAC copper core high-speed cable or QSFP + to 4 * SFP + AOC active optical cable, the connection mode is the same, because the design and use of DAC and AOC are similar. One end of the DAC and AOC direct cable is a 40g QSFP + connector and the other end is four independent 10g SFP + connectors. The QSFP + connector can be directly plugged into the switch's QSFP + port. It has four parallel two-way channels, and each channel can work at up to 10Gbps. Because DAC high-speed cable uses copper medium transmission, AOC active optical cable uses optical fiber transmission, therefore, they support different transmission distance, usually DAC copper core high-speed cable transmission distance is short, which is the most obvious difference between the two.


In the 40g to 10g split connection, you can use the 40g QSFP + to 4 * SFP + direct connect cable to connect the switch directly, without purchasing additional optical modules, to help you save network costs and simplify the connection process. However, the transmission distance of this connection mode is limited (DAC ≤ 10m, AOC ≤ 100m), so DAC or AOC direct connection optical cable is more suitable for the connection inside the machine cabinet or two adjacent cabinets.


2. 40g QSFP + to 4 * LC duplex AOC branch active optical cable

40g QSFP + to 4 * LC duplex AOC branch active optical cable is a special type of AOC active optical cable. One end of it is QSFP + connector and the other end is four independent LC duplex jumpers. If you plan to use the branch active optical cable to realize 40g to 10g application, you need to match with four SFP + optical modules, that is, the QSFP + interface of QSFP + to 4 * LC duplex active optical cable can be directly inserted into the 40g port of the device, and the LC interface should be inserted into the corresponding SFP + optical module on the device. Because most devices are compatible with LC interface, this connection mode can meet the needs of most users.


3. MTP-4 * LC branch optical fiber jumper

One end of MTP-4 * LC branch jumper is an 8-core MTP interface, which is used to connect 40g QSFP + optical modules. The other end is 4 duplex LC jumpers, which are respectively connected with 4 10g SFP + optical modules. Each line transmits data at 10Gbps rate to complete 40g to 10g transmission. This connection scheme is suitable for high-density 40g network environment. Compared with the transmission distance of DAC or AOC direct cable, MTP-4 * LC branch jumper can support long-distance data transmission. Since most devices are compatible with LC interface, MTP-4 * LC branch jumper connection scheme can provide users with more flexible wiring scheme.
