SFP Types
SFP transceivers are available with a variety of transmitter and receiver specifications, allowing users to select the appropriate transceiver for each link to provide the required optical reach over the available optical fiber type (e.g. multi-mode fiber or single-mode fiber). Transceivers are also designated by their transmission speed. SFP modules are commonly available in several different categories.
1. 1Gbit/s multi-mode fiber, LC connector, with black or beige extraction lever. SX – 850 nm, for a maximum of 550 m at 1.25Gbit/s (gigabit Ethernet). Other multi-mode SFP applications support even higher rates at shorter distances.
2. 1.25Gbit/s multi-mode fiber, LC connector, extraction lever colors not standardized. SX+/MX/LSX (name dependent on manufacturer) – 1310 nm, for a distance up to 2km. Not compatible with SX or 100BASE-FX. Based on LX but engineered to work with a multi-mode fiber using a standard multi-mode patch cable rather than a mode-conditioning cable commonly used to adapt LX to multi-mode.

FAQ
1. Question: Is it a replacement part for a Gigamon fclf-8520-3-gm?
Answer: No, it isn’t. According to our experience, Finisar switch do not have special requirements for coding.
2. Question: Does the 1000base-t unit have faster through-put vs. the 10/100/1000base-t unit?
Answer: No, the difference between 1000Base-T and 10/100/1000Base-T is that the rate of 1000Base-T locks at 1000 Mbps but the 10/100/1000Base-T with the function of auto-negotiation. Auto-negotiation allows devices to perform automatic configuration to achieve the best possible mode of operation over a link so the 10/100/1000Base-T can operate on 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 1000 Mbps.
3. Question: Will the speed be fast with this port versus regular rj45 port on switche?
Answer: Yes. The SFP port with this RJ45 adapter should be at least as fast as any other RJ45 port on your switch or router.
4. Question: Will this work with Cisco?
Answer: Yes, it will.
5. Question:Will this work with 1g (not 10g) sfp ports in Cisco switches?
Answer:Yes. As long as the rate of both ends are consistent.
6. Question: Are these hot swapable in Juniper switch?
Answer: Yes.
